Default Another misfire!!

Randomly missing under load y'day evening, once I held steady pace it rans fine, once I hit it it missed and spluttered badly.

This morning it ran fine, except for one small misfire getting back on the throttle after a slow corner.

I washed it the day before, any chance water is getting in somewhere and causing this?

If it were a car I'd say coil pack breaking down straight away, as it only started once the bike was well heated up, but do coils even really give much trouble on bikes, esp at only 26K? I've owned FIAT Coupes 20vts and they are famous for it, but only at around 50-60K

No codes showing, did FPR test and not leaking.

Battery new.

It's doing my friggin nut in at this stage, has to be fuel, electric or poss valve clearance??

Going to give up shortly and hand it over to a mech to end up shafted up the rear

Hi Dec you could be right there, just give it a day or so to see if it rights itself

Yeah, it's become a bit of a pattern, I've ridden through heavy rain and the following day it's been snatchy and missing, kind of like when you deliberately drop throttle suddenly and hit again, then the day after it'll be fine again. I even thought it was myself due to wearing the thick winter gloves which are so thick they have no bar feeling whatsoever, but it was a def misfires y'day.

Would dielectric grease on anything that is remotely exposed be the answer, if she runs ok tomorrow?

Cheers

Plug caps! my old CB250 did that.. if your brave and in good health, grab each one with a wet hand, u will soon feel which one is leaking current! wrap the plug caps in swathes of electrical tape and also the leads all the way to the coilpack.. if this helps on the next wash/rain storm then you know what you need to replace

See if water got into the spark plug tubes.

The dielectric grease is good for dispelling moisture, maybe even rubber grommets around the spark plug hole on the cam cover

You know what? I cracked the plastic lip on hole at brake side when doing plugs ages ago, I wonder if water is getting in there?

Sounds like a short somewhere. Thats now at least 2 occasions where water related to cutting out. Not only can water be a conductor to unintentionally ground wires, but so can grease/grime/dirt. As stated above I would go back and check connectors, then for bare wires and as you said possible broken pieces. Dielectric is supposed to seal out and promote connection, so probably not likely its the reason for your issue. Gotta love wiring

Two dry runs and it's still doing it, so doubt it's wet related. this bike is really getting on my nerves now.

Any way of testing coils with multi-meter? It all points in that direction, doesn't happen until bike is well heated up, then it splutters like it's running out of petrol

haven't used dielectric, was wondering if should do all connections with it?

Prob be easier to re-wire the bike than start going through testing them all 😏
