Default accidently crushed oil filter

i accidently crushed the oil filter because i gripped it to hard with my grips while attempting to remove the oil filter. Is that bad? will it hurt the engine? i didnt know how soft it actually was. I twisted it the wrong way (stupid) and it tightened so i went "oh ****" and found out that it was crushed, so i twisted it the other way and it came right off. Do you think i damaged the engine because i tightened it a little to much? or maybe particles got inside idk.

you should be fine, I've had filters collapse on me before, ended up having to hammer a screwdriver through a few to get them to come off. nothing is the worse for wear.

You'll be fine. I've done the same "stupid" thing on my car before by mistake. The last oil change on my bike (first time I did it since I bought it) I had to hammer a screw driver through it and get mad at it.

You may have damaged the filtering capability, so change it.

I think he was concerned with whether it caused any damage to the surface that the filter seats against or whether some metal may have broken off the filter and went inside the engine.

The bike wasn't running at the time right? So there was no circulation of oil, you are fine. On a side note have found the threads that talk abouut filters and oil?
