If you do a search you'll find plenty of answers! This question gets asked quite a lot.
I run diesel oil (rotella t synth) but I'm not sure what the UK equivalent would be. Maybe certain Rimula oils, Delo, etc? When I'm not running that, it's Mobil 1 10W40 car oil that is not the energy conserving variety.

Haynes manual says 10/40 only asked as need quick answer ,as oil is just at bottom of dipstick so wll have to go buy some, was just wondering if its best to use synthetic or semi synthetic,or just a norml 10/40 car oil.

Don't use one that is labeled as energy conserving (most automotive oils) unless you want clutch slipping troubles.

Full synth is generally best, followed by semi, and then regular oil. It's really up to you what you use in your bike.

You can read this if you like. It's a good article.
