Default 98 cbr900rr sluggish is lower gears & low rpms - help

The bike has been running fine until last week... i started it up and the choke stuck at 4000 rpms... i dumped my idle screw down all the way till i got home and greased it properly and such..... anyhow.. every since its boggy pullin away and in low gears when rmps are low.... i'm thinking i may have fowled a plug... anyone else have any ideas?

also... i did put the idle up to about 1500 and it seemed to be ok tonight.. but it progressively got worse.... to the point the bike is backfiring now... i also checked all off the vaccum hoses on the tank.. everything seems ok.. please help

Did you make sure the choke is working properly? It may still be in the 'on' position slighty, making your mixture rich. Double check this and check plugs as well. An air leak in the exhaust system can cause back firing also.
