What is your current gearing - look at the charts below, to figure out what your RPM should be at in 6th - I made one for stock 15x43, the common 14x45 (-1,+2) setup, and 15x45 (-0,+2).

For all 3 though - 6000rpm in 6th is going to have you within +/- 5mph of 70, so you're sounding right as far the RPM the engine is turning - now how much gas it is drinking is the next question.

If you want lower rpms go to Gearing Commander, load your bike's stock gearing from the drop-down menu and experiment with what different size front or rear sprockets will do for you. Just like on a bicycle, bigger front means lower rpm at the same speed and slower acceleration/harder to wheelie. Bigger in the rear means higher rpm and quicker acceleration.

You said that it drinks fuel like beer at a NASCAR event. Did you do an actual mpg calculation and, if so, what is it? If you're an aggressive rider something like 35 mpg wouldn't be too unusual.

Last time I did nothing but high way miles I got 60mpg doing an average of 55mph on +1/-1 gearing. 6k RPMs for high way driving is fine if you are doing 65-75mph. Do you have close to stock gearing or was your bike set up for stunting? (huge rear sprocket)

Gearing helps gas mileage a little bit, but honestly, 99% of it comes from proper jetting and not opening the throttle very wide.

35mpg is pretty standard if you are stop/go riding, opening the throttle and having some fun.

So our bike stock is 15/43 right? If so, where do you guys get your chains and sprockets? I know I need a new chain so i was considering going +1/-1 or +2/-1 after playing around with Gearing Commander (thanks adrenaln and Roadijeff). not sure yet. But on bikebandit all i see is 14/43's. Thanks
