Hey all, new here.
I’m considering a 954 project bike. Says they overfilled with oil, and smokes now when running.
From what I read this could mean head gasket or rings, or?
How can I easily check to see if this will need a rebuild?
compression check?

what other things should I look for?

If rebuild , what kits and prices should I be looking at?

Hello and welcome to the forum Jack, just to start where are you getting the bike from , did they give you anymore info than it was over filled , what mileage does it have

 

Its listed on a classified in Ohio.
Its a 2002 with almost 18,000 miles. "bike only 18k miles. the previous owner over filled the bike with oil when the bike ran it smoked. "
I asked about the oil, how much was it run with the oil, and he did not know.
He is selling as a parts bike, but says: "The oil needs drained and new plugs to run."

I dont have experience with this particular bike, but seems if the engine is good, then the rest is just parts to make it work. Just wondering how bad it could be, cost wise.
I know I will need to buy a manual, and maybe head gasket or/and new rings.

I rebuilt an old 74 Kawasaki H2 750 so Im not afraid to turn a wrench.

 

Had a 954 myself , and that mileage is good, its all down to the price really, if you get it up and running you wont be disappointed
