Just picked up a 954 last weekend. Previous owner put new fork seals on... Front suspension feels all sorts of funky... Also... When I crank compression down all the way as stiff as it will go, it's softer.... Rebound too, crank it to be faster and it slows to almost nothing.

Was something reassembled wrong by the previous owner? Would I be better off just having a suspension shop look at it? Raceworx is only about 20 minutes from me so I'm seriously considering that.

 

which direction are you turning adjusters?

 

Clockwise to stiffen, counter clockwise to soften... Just like it shows on the adjuster...
But it's opposite

 

Best way to know for sure is take it apart and look for yourself. Sounds like it was put back together wrong.
