lots of people do it but its a waste. the weight decrease is minimal and the setup wears out alot faster.

^+1^...Unless you are trying to shave a tenth of a second off your lap time stick with the 525, oh wait, you're riding a 929RR you should have the 530 chain on your bike. If you're looking for more bottom end torque then you can change the gear ratio of the sprockets (-1/+2 is common) but your top end will suffer a lil.

thnx the sales man at the local shop is telling me i cud free up so much horse power nd torque with the lighter rotation off mass cuz the engine wont have to work as hard to turn the sprockets nd chain

The HP increase from the weight decrease is pretty small and not noticeable by the average rider, depends where you look, but most references will say 2-5 hp.

If you want more torque, as was said earlier, change the sprockets (-1/+2), but leave the 530. Cheaper that way.

not supposed to go 520 on 750cc and up, chain probably wont handle the abuse and definately wear out faster. not worth getting hurt or major bike damage. if you had a 600 you could do the chain and sprockets, but hwy speed and speedo being off are other factors, search it up, lots of info in the 600rr sections on this setup

Exactly. You don't want to "under-engineer" your bike, especially if you are racing, and it sounds like you are going to.

"Lighter rotation of mass" lol, you could "free up" more hp by chopping off an arm or leg, that's got to be a good 30 pounds.

to the defence of the setup, yea it helps a bit, especially for the smaller cc, but true, rotation of mass being lighter isnt as big of a deal as with cars. Dieting/exercise is your cheapest and most effective way to shorten the hp/weight ratio, thats one thing I never understood about these guys at autocrosses that spend all sorts of money saving a pound or two on their car, yet they are overweight trying to squeeze into their car. reminds me of the 270lb. guy that ran his civic at the strip all motor dipping into the 10s, maybe he could let someone half that weight run the thing a whole lot quicker
