So I was at a light today after the cars settled behind me I popped the bike into neutral. Light turns green and I go to down shift into 1st and the lever wont budge, now engagement sounds, first I think okay let me go into 2nd, wont shift into second either. I restarted the bike, released the clutch and pulled it back in, rolled forwards and eventually one of them worked.

After I pulled into the parking lot at work I kinda trouble shooted, I'd say 6/9 times I restarted the bike when stuck in neutral and it went into first but then I put it back in neutral and it was stuck again.

Anyone know what's going on?

 

Is there excessive play (in and out) in the shift rod?
