What are the pros and cons of using 110 octane Avgas?
When I was about 17, I worked at a local airport. Fueling and towing planes, that sort of thing. This one guy used to come in all the time on his bike to get Avgas. We always went ahead and sold it to him but all my coworkers used to say that he was an idiot, he was gonna blow his motor. So, I'm just curious what the side effects and benefits are

If the compression isn't bumped up either by shaving the head or turbo/supercharger then AV gas won't do anything really. All octane means is a resistance to detonation (premature explosion that kills your engine). So 110 gas is actually harder to ignite than 93 therefore if you aren't running enough compression ( heat ) then you will get slightly LESS power from the 110. If you are running 13:1 or better then running 93 will explode your engine between your legs at around 7000 rpms or so whereas 110 would run all day long.
As chain said it is a resistance to detonation. An airplane doesnt have higher compresion than a bike does but it is necessary to keep then from detonation at higher altitude or thinner air, besides an airplane has to run reliably not powerful. You can use octane to your advantage to get horsepower though, if you advance your ignition timing with higher octane you will get more torque on the bottom end of the power curve, as well as increased top end power, your engine will run cooler than with 93 and normal timing. But you have to change your timing in order to feel the difference, Changing octane alone will not help you.

93 Octane.......110 Octane.......don't see it happening. Higher quality fuels are sold to some drag riders. If you are looking in that department, go for that. Don't tear up your ride looking for a new high for it will get you sky high and a sneak peek at Jesus.
I'm not going to use 110, I was merely curious what the effects were and my question was very well answered. Therefore, I assume that running higher octane fuel allows for a higher redline?

i dont think it would matter between 87 and 93 octane. i think its best to decide which one your bike runs better on. some bikes might run better at 87 and some at 93. try it out and if it is running sloppy one day try the other. just stick with what you think is best. i believe it also depends where you get the gas from, as in which gas station. Some gas just sucks while others are really good.
Basically Higher octane will not hurt you unless it contains lead and many of them do. Led will clog up cats if you have them. But good unleaded high octane will not hurt your motor just make it run with less horese power.
I used to use Sunoco racing fuel in my car on race days and it would
run about 10 - 15 degrees hotter than normal, I would think a bike
would do the same thing. Other than that I never had any problems.

I dont know why your car was running hotter than normal, Every car that I have seen that runs higher octane runs cooler then with junk gas. Again I am not recomending running 110 or higher in a bike unless you have MAJOR mods. 93 is fine. Most of their engineering is based around gas you can pull up to and pump into your bike at any gas station. Not stuff you find at the track. But unleaded wont hurt your motor maybe just performance unless you have cats! Then you have to be careful with LEADED gas cuz it will clog them
