Default 04 cbr1000rr water temp to high

Sometimes if sitting at a light it runs up close to240 riding 215 is the usual. so is it the water pump? Maybe? Water bottle is full actually to full. I haven't check raditor yet. Any insight would be helpful. Thanks

does the fan kick on?

Are you the original owner? If not, I would flush the system, who knows what the previous owner did.

It could be the water pump, or clogged radiator. Also, check all of your hoses and make sure none of them are colapsing when the bike gets up to temp.

But, it should never really get past 225 or so sitting with the fan on. Mine runs about 185 driving with the fan kicking on around 215.

Ya, that is a problem. Even city cruising around 40mph should get the temp down around 190F. Fan should kick in around 220F and bring the temp down fairly quickly even sitting at a light.

What all have you done/checked so far?

I've looked at the water bottle so I know it has coolant in it. I've not checked the raditor yet. I'm not the original owner and I've not done that much to it. It had been laid down before though so I need to check it out more soon. Fan is wired to a switch so it can stay on all the time when the bike is running.

I really hate when people start creatively wiring things instead of repairing the problem. Makes it real tough on the next owner

So with the fan on all the time what kind of temps are you looking at?

It very well could be the water pump. With the bike off and cool, I'd break loose the return hose -- crank the bike and see how much water it's putting out.

Id look for any signs of water leakage. Chances are pretty good the previous owner dumped the bike, then just tried to get rid of it. If there was a leak after the crash, he very well could have dumped in some stop leak and that could have plugged up your system.

In addition to what Chain suggested, I would replace the thermostat. It fairly easy and on the cheap side. It may be sticking, and if that happens, it will run hot.

And also fix the fan so it operates normally. You really don't need the constant draw of a fan running all the time. Not to mention the problems you will have if you forget to turn it on. It probably still works like it should, the previous owner just wired it on all the time to try and cool it instead of fixing the real problem.

With it on all the time it'll stay around 215 while riding. If I stop for to long it'll get around 240 if I ain't careful. Pulling the return hose sounds like a good thing to start with. I'm wondering if it's just the thermostat stuck shut. We'll see soon.

I have a F4i, not sure if the 1K would be different, but i had coolant leaking out of the weep hole. Well it got to the point where there wasn't enough water in the radiator to reach the temp switch and therefore not kicking on the fan which in turn let the bike get well into the 240's. I say check the coolant level.

you need to get the fan working like it is supposed to then you need to check the themostat, I am going to bet that it has been replaced because it sounds like someone bought a old racebike right!!
