Meh. Its all about you. Its not really your skill you should be thinking about, its your judgment when its comes to a first bike. The thing with these bikes is its WAY TO EASY to go fast and TBH they are VERY easy to ride. If you think you can handle the 600 go for, if you have a big ego....not so much.

Hello,

I'm in the same situation as you XXVI, only a month or so behind you. Please can you keep posting in this forum and let us know your choice and your thoughts. Im knocking on the door of 30 and i have been threatening to get into riding a bike for years but not had the cash... things have changed now and its time to make a dream come true. I love the F4i and i would class myself as the 1 in a 100 person, 'm no showoff and i really don't care for stunts or riding fast. My heart reaches out for this bike but my mind is still in control.... its a choice i would also love some help with.

Keep us posted.

Regards,

Phobix

The F4i is not a good starter. A good starter is a bike that's meant for newbies. Ninja 250, Buell Blast, GZ250, Shadow 250, etc.

They're easier and cheaper to maintain, repair, insure. Cheaper tires, even better MPG, simple to check and change spark plugs and oil. You learn the ins and outs of owning, maintaining and repairing a motorcycle before moving up to a 160mph bike with a race heritage. Bikes require a lot more attention than cars and almost as much attention as boats.

There is a lot more to riding motorcycles than throwing a leg over the seat and twisting the throttle. You wouldn't know that because you haven't been an owner before, so listen to those who have the experience.

Personally, I really don't think there is any reason to start on a 250 if you educate yourself and take it easy. I drove a 250 once before my big bro came over and let me jump on his 954. Looking back that may not have been the best move, but it scared me a little into havng respect for these machines. Then, my friends taught me on one of their GSXR 600s and now I've finally purchased a 2001 F4I at an amazing deal I just couldn't pass up. I'm definitely not saying I'm a pro by any means, but I'm pretty sure I'll do fine finishing up learning on the F4I. I say as long as you are comfortable, but not cocky start on a 600... I know there will be lots of disagreement with me saying that, especially since I don't have a ton of riding experience, but I've talked to people who have started on 600s and have lots of experience and they agree with me
