I bought an 05 F4i, the exhaust was stolen before I got it. My exhaust ends at the end of the header.

I know a few people with stock exhausts off of their 01s and 02s, but I need to know which years will fit, and which ones won't. I just want to throw something on, so I can get it inspected.

I also heard something about a rear O2 sensor on the 05s, basically like OBD2 cars, for emissions, is that true?

anything after 03 will fit.
yes, the new ones have 02 sensors on all bikes, not just cali bikes.
it doesn't work like cars though.
if you run a pipe without the sensor, you'll need to get an 02 eliminator so your MIL doesn't go off.

 

Will the engine run ok if the MIL is on?

Since I have no mid/rear pipe, I have no O2 either. I guess I can wire in the O2 sim without doing much work, and they are pretty cheap to build or even to buy.

Can I throw on an 03+ pipe and just ride it until I get the O2 sim on there, or will the MIL make it run in limp-home mode or something? I ran it without the rear section and it ripped just fine up to 10k, but because of the noise I didn't push it any further.

One last thing, does 03 fit, or is it 04 and later? And when you say fits, does that mean w/O2 and all? Do the earlier ones fit, but just have no O2 bung?

I need to get a pipe and rear tire guard on it so I can take pictures and send them in to get a title. I will have a few weeks to get everything working while waiting on the paperwork. I just need to make sure I buy an exhaust that will bolt-on so my pictures look good for the state people.

No O2 sensor on the 05 F4i. Any of the pipes will fit. Only on the 06's did they start to have the O2 sensor. Find one you like for any year 01-05 and you will be good to go!

 

my understanding that is that systems to fit the 2 seat style is different than the single seat style due to the mounting positions being different as they use different sub-frames.

as far as the MIL light, you will still be able to ride it...it won't be in limp mode as in cars or anything, just an annoying light.

Threw a stock 02 pipe on there and it fit like a glove. Sure sounds cleaner, and a heck of a lot quieter too.
