Thats the whole problem with american cars and some americans (no offense to some not trying to start a debate or anything) they thing straight and only straight. I mean i have an rsx-s 4cyl 200hp (does so with 2L which is impressive) and i keep up with mustang GTs and 02-03 camaros on the highway, in the turns i easily take em.

The bike well thats always a different story haha

Oh lord, don't make statements like this, you're going to start a war. I wasn't saying an import was better but rather just pointing out the flaws of that particular car. I do drive a highly modified Honda Civic on road courses do HDPE events but it took a lot of money to get there. A guy I knew with Chin used to have a GTO that he tracked and he got rid of it for the reasons I mentioned. Just too damn heavy he said and it is a pig at 4,000+ lbs.

Straight line only for American? Eh...what about Z06? That's probably the best out of box track car there is for the money and that's American. I can't think of anything that would keep up with it for the money.

And the RSX-S is a nice car butI used to own a '05 Type S and from a track standpoint it could have used some work too.

Needs brake ducting
suspension is too soft - good bit of body roll
needs a bigger rear sway bar
no limited slip
gear box is known to be grindy

The good news is the K-series engine is a great Honda platform to be build on. You can make some nice power out of those and keep it realiable.

Yup some people pushing 700whp plus with it, ive got 150k miles on mine, someone is selling theres with 266,000 miles. Body roll isnt an issue, idk if you watch top gear but some of those cars body roll to hell but are still fast as ****.

The Z06 handling? heh for that price your reaching Nissan GT-R territory and tahts a lot faster.

Btw a veyron does 0-60 in 2.8 thats why the 2.5 is hard to believe.

Oh and the parts you listed are cheap to change, well i do my own labor so for me it is. LSD, type r rear sway. My transmission has never grinded ever im so surprised and i autox and 1/4mi A LOT.

I was actually referring to picking up a used C5 Z06 but the new Z06 is nice too. It is faster than a GT-R in a straight line but from what I've read in the mags so far it edges out the Z06 on smaller road courses. On a larger course, such as Sebring, I'm not content yet. I did see one at the last Chin event but the guy was new to the sport so he wasn't going real fast. In the real world it's going to depend more on the driver than what you read in mags.

I think he was claiming those 0-60 times with slicks.

Apparently not a whole lot of car or drag racing knowledge in this thread. Those GTOs can run 10s and can run to 60 in under 3 seconds. Many of you are comparing traction-limited magazine tests on stock size all-weather street tires on unmodified cars to significantly wider drag radial or drag slick full-throttle launches on heavily modded cars. Very different results!

These magazine tests have to feather out the clutch and modulate the throttle so as to not boil the tires immediately off the line.

At the drag strip, properly prepared with VHT and on proper drag rubber, you can drop the clutch from whatever RPM you choose as long as your driveline can handle the jolt.

These cars are reaching 100mph in under 7 seconds and make around 650hp. Nearly all that power can be put to the ground to accelerate them to 60mph quickly. In most cases they are driven to the track, change wheels/tires and raced. They are street cars with A/C, power steering, stereo, leather seating.

Result of a supercharged and built GTO? Try two...

How about a cam and nitrous, some minor mods, no other engine work?

Perhaps turbo is your thing

Really, it doesn't take much.

i knew this would happen lol, you could also send your car to hennesey and have him make you 720hp on a challenger. But the whole point is, its straight line, you put that car thru one corner and it wont make it.

You seem to be missing the point. The thread starter talked about racing in a straight line.

Nobody said the car would win around a Moto GP track!
