Valve Clearance: Step by Step guide?

Valve Clearance: Step by Step guide?
Anyone ever post a step by step guide on how to do this? I'm at 21,000 miles and they haven't even been looked at. Should I feel guilty? I don't run the bike hard. I've heard checking the clearances is pretty easy to do... but then again, a mechanical engineer told me that.
