Default Tire insurance

So I got a used bike a few days ago from a local dealer. I purchased the tire insurance, the sales guy kind of hinted that I could just stick a nail in the tire when I needed a new one.
Well I noticed some belt showing on my tire already, should I stick a nail in it and call it in? Would it be ok to stick a small nail in there and drive about 5 miles, not going over 35mph, as long as it wasn't leaking?

I will assume the paper work you signed on the insurance will have something listed about how much tread life it left....

^^ Ditto that. I hit a nail and drove to the dealer on the freeway (not recommended) after filling the tires at a gas station. So long as it will hold plenty of air to get you there you should be more than ok. You might look suspicious though rolling up with a nail gun in your back pack.

usually some places are ******* about things like that and your warranty isnt valid if you have gotten to the belt/inner thread of the tires. you gotta read the fine print

Default RE: Tire insurance

I got my tires (Michelin Pilots) at Cycle Gear in Atlanta. I purchased the insurance with the NEW set of tires. I have used the insurance twice since December for road debris in the tires. All in all it is a good idea to get the insurance it has saved me ALOT of money. I really don't think that you should stoop to intentionally putting nails into your tire just to get a few bucks off. That is just a low as stealing from another rider and the insurance rates at Cycle Gear just went from 10% of the tire price to 15% of the tire price because of a whole lot of people doing just that. So, you save yourself a little money at the expense of COSTING your fellow riders money out of pocket. Just my opinion....take it for what it is worth.
