Or you can measure out 3.5 quarts and fill it up and you will be ok without using a stand.
Haha yeah, I never check my oil quantity after I fill it up. I assume that, if i put 3.5 quarts in, then, well, there must be 3.5 quarts in the bike.

I only really check my oil like 50 miles after the oil change to make sure I torqued the drain bolt ok.

I put in about 3L. It says 2998ml on the clutch over, if i recall correctly. It is pretty much exactly where i want it to be.

I check with a similar method to flyou i put one foot on the foot peg and pull the bike toward be from the handle bar. when i get it at a balanced point i keep it there and take a look.

I don't know about the honda manual. Its really wack. it says my fuel tank is 4.7 gallons i have ridden this thing til it died and filled up only Marginally 3.9. I would assume the same with the oil but hell. what do i know.

This whole oil thing you are making way more complex then it actually is. Just do it! and call it a day

that .9 extra 'reserve' fuel is basically unuseable fuel. it's misleading.

I get mine at an autozone type place. Its just a regular Fram oil filter, runs me like $8 or so. I use Mobile 1 GT motorcycle oil which is like $9 a quart (full synthetic). Around $45 to change my oil, but beats the $135 the dealer wants.

In short, yes you can.

P.S. The only thing I would swear by is a K&N air filter. its a bit of a pain to install, but I noticed a behavior and a slight performance difference with mine. they are $60 or so, but they have a million ,kile warranty and only need to be cleaned every 50,000 miles.

car oil is fine if it doesnt say energy conserving on the API label. Molybidum grease is used when shimming the valves. Ive put over 60k between my 2 sportbikes on nothing but automotive oil, with no engine trouble whatsoever. you guys want to spend more money on the same thing labeled differently fine by me.[sm=sigh.gif]

I use shell rotella T 15W40 and a pureone PL14610 filter. Oil is cheap (~$12 a gallon at autozone) but has good protection (used in high mileage turbo diesel trucks). I change my oil every 1000 miles, so it works great.
