Every time I put 3.5 quarts in the window is completely filled, as in over the lines. The bike is level when I check it. Any help?

So do you put foil over the headers or something to keep the trickle of oil off the engine? If it trickles out wouldn't you be wiping up oil until it empties (not much I know).
Let's settle this once and for all, lol

are you draining your oil filter #2? If not, then 3.2 makes sense.

There you have it. 3.5 quarts, put in more than that and watch black smoke blow out of your tail pipe.

Oil = Blue smoke

LOL we're all dorks.

I ran my bike with 4.5 quarts in it. Didn't see any smoke, but it made my bike feel about 500 pounds heaver andriding on 2 flat tires. Not fun. Broke down about 3 times before I figured out what I had done [:'(]

I've but 10,000 miles on her since then and has been running like a champ.

I always put 3.5 in (as per the manual) but I just decided to check it one day and that's when I noticed that the oil was over the max line in the window. I've been doing that since I got the bike and i've never had any problems but then I heard to much oil is bad so I panicked.

I always let mine drain for a long time but I realize it's not all going to come out. It's a 2002 BTW.

So should I put in 3.5 even tho it goes above the max fill line or just put enough so that the level is in between max and low?

Fill it until it's inbetween max and low. Don't go with the 3.5 rule if that's the case. Honestly, overfilling by a couple of tenths of a quart bit isn't a big deal. It'll raise the oil pressure a bit but nothing serious.

Just to make sure: you are changing your filter, right? According to that, you drain an extra .3 quarts by removing the filter.

When I drain mine, I keep the plug out for a good 10 minutes... until it doesn't drip anymore.

Ok guys I picked up the OEM filter, 4 quarts Honda synthetic oil, oil box, and washer. A friend will let me borrow his tools (socket wrench, torque wrench) on Friday but I think its simple enough to do it on my own. My problem is I dont have a stand to keep the bike level so I can check the oil level and I don't have a socket wrench or torque wrench. I was going to use the adjustable wrench thats in the trunk of the bike and hand tighten everything (just gotta be careful and not overtighten). The only problem is how to get the bike level so I can check the oil level. Any thoughts?

get a friend to sit on the bike for you, or prop it up against a wall. I can do it myself by kneeling on the ground and pulling the bike toward me bythe right handlebar. Kind of a scary feling but it works

Or you can measure out 3.5 quarts and fill it up and you will be ok without using a stand.
