RE: "Ticking" noise above 4000 revs
I've got a ticking sound that I just recently discovered for the first time driving a block without my helmet on. I couldn't ever it in the past with the helmet on. It's very clear from low to mid rpms while it's in gear and is related to rotation as it clicks faster with rpm. It reminds me an old fashioned speedo or tach cable spinning around and hitting on something. Anyone familiar with this? The bike has 14k miles so I suppose it's time for a CCT anyway.

I just pulled mine out and tried to tighten up the pin by hitting it with a punch. It didn't work. Damn, I didn't know that there was a key to hold it in place while you reinstalled it. I used a small screwdriver and some electrical tape. What a pain in the a$$. I'm gonna get a manual one and throw it in. Forget these honda cctl's. You'd think that they would have sorted it out by now.

I could hear my CCTL clearly with my lid on. I can still hear my valvetrain with my lid on, but not when I wear earplugs (most of the time).
BTW, you do know that like 90% of accidents occur close to home when they were "just running out somewhere". The one time you go without your lid maybe the one time you bouce on your head when grandma pulls out in front of you.

1st post :O
Just got my first sportbike, 2002 cbr 600 f4i and it does the same thing, but only when it's moving not when I just rev it sitting still. Pretty quiet really fast ticks, almost like a pen hitting against something metal repeatedly is this the same thing?
