Default Tank Pad?

I went to my local accessory store looking for a black (not CF) tank pad, but they didnt sell one and they told me that the all black ones get too hot and peel off in the sun. This sounds like total BS to me, and i think the salesman was an idiot. Am I the idiot? What kind of tank pads do people use in here? I'd like an all black one since i do not intend (and dont like) the CF look and wont be CF'ing out the rest of the bike.

Thanks.

I've seen lots of black ones, and they were fine. And it doesn't get much hotter than where I live.

That said, I have a TankSlapper, and love it.

I use a Mag-Knight tank pad in black (balloon shaped). So far, I am happy with it. It is magnetic and does not require adhesive. You can take in off when you wash the bike.

I seen grey and sand colored ones on ebay. I found them by not look specifically for F4i , they were hinding in kawasaki section. I dont think that the pads can be that great of a difference between makes. Dont quote me on that@

I second alekinci...ebay is definitely the way to go as far as selection and price. I just ordered mine (12.50 Shipped).

What’s the best way to attach it? I have heard of people using a little bit of rubbing alcohol in the area where you want to position it and then using a hair drier to warm up the adhesive prior to adhering it to the tank. Thoughts?

I know the guy that had my bike before me had a clear tank pad and i guess it got dirt under the pad and it looked bad cause you could see through it, so I recommend not getting a clear one. It looked bad so i removed it, but all i did to remove it was, it was about 90 outside let my bike sit outside for about 3 hours and went out and it pulled right off. So if it is warm you might just leave your bike and the pad outside for awhile, once the tank has heated up from the sun, then it should stick nice in easy. One other thing it didnt remove any of my paint from the tank, so if you position it wrong the first time or just dont like it, you shouldnt have problem damaging your paint if you want to remove it.

Good Luck

Makes sense to me. Black would get pretty toasty in the sun.

Thanks...If we could just get some sun now!

I agree, my friend had a clear tank pad and if you don't put it on right you can get bubbles under it too...just another reason not to go with the clear pad.
