Default Taking Tires Off

okay... well here is my problem, im cheap and i dont like to spend money for stuff i can fix myself, although i am all too aware that doign stuff myself may end up costing me more in the end which is has so many times before.

My local shop said if i bring them the tires and the bike with the old ones on it,it will be $80 to have them changed
It will be $24 if i bring them just the rims with the old tires on them and the new tires. How hard is it to get the rims and tires off of the bike? Then how hard is it to put them back on? I get pissed really easy when working on things too if that plays a part.

Thanks!

removing the wheels is easy. You need a set of stands and sockets the size of the axel nuts and brake caliper bolts

for the rear, you just remove the nut from the axle, pull said axle out while holding the wheel up with one arm. Move the wheel forward enough to pull the chain off the sprocket and then maneuver the brake rotor out of the brake caliper

for the front, its easier to remove the brake calipers first, there are two bolts attaching each to the forks. pull the calipers off the rotors. Then remove the bolt from the right side of the axle, pull the axle out and pull the wheel out.

swapping the tires is something a shop to do, breaking the bead can be a PITA without propper tools and mounting new tires worse and thats not even getting into balancing them

I just bought a nomar tire changer so I can do my own but its a $1,000+ investment

just fyi, that is a damn good price you got from a shop to change tires, $80 for the whole job? most shops around here charge around $140 to do it, of coursethat includes free scratches on your rims lol

Use a torque wrench while tightening the nuts.

I think the sockets you need for the rear are 22 and 27mm. I think the caliper requires a 14mm socket. Get some stands (front and rear) and take the wheelsoff yourself. I just did it, and I am stupid (so it must be easy). Make sure you have a torque wrench for confidence when you put your wheels back on. Follow the manual...owners or shop manual The overall cost of stands and tools will pay for themselves after one or two tire changes. Good luck...by the way $24 for them to mount, balance, and dispose of old tiresis a great price. Check this out:

I found two effective methods of breaking the bead with valve core removed lay your wheel out on the ground on a blaket towel what evre guess it depend how worried about scratches you are drive your car onto the trie close to the rim as possible without hitting it drive forward slow turning to follow the contour. works great

If you don't want to try that use a hydraulic jack put the wheel on the ground underneath the edge of your car place jack between car and wheel jack up untill bead loosens
