LOL....I still hit the horn when putting on my turns (3+ yrs riding). Just nod to who ever looks like you meant to do that.

i also put my bike on the kickstand when i fill it up. i dont like to have to balance it while trying to fill it up.

I should've stared at them too, but there were so many!!
Anyway, I think I will be stuck in "parking lots, side streets (night)" for few more months before I actually go out to backroads.

Be careful when you're filling up the deep crevice with your special fluid that it doesn't accidently spray back out a little and get all over her body also when you take the thing out of the hole to not drip any onto the body she doesn't like that very much.
I'm talking about the fuel nozzle misting back up while you're filling and taking it out when you're done and dripping gas on the paint job. I hate that and so does my baby.

Definitely get off the bike when you fill up. Having your pants soakedwith gas spillage is not a great option if you go down. Also, since you're gonna drop your bike pretty soon (every-one does - i did it on day 2!) it's not a bad idea to only fill it only 1/2 full so it will be a bit less "top heavy" until you get the hang of balancing the bike(especially in the garage and at stop lights, etc.)
Good luck and enjoy!
It's a great first bike

RE: super-Newbie question : how to pump gas
pretty much everyone sums it up...
if you are filling it up all the way... you have to slowly pull the nozzle away from the tank... and have really good Throttle control... with the lever... so it wont spash back at you....
now... filling up gas becomes a one handed operation...
only time i use my other hand is to pull out my phone and use the calculator to check my mpg!
