steering columns? can you describe what it looks like? i think you may be calling something else that...you mean maybe steering damper?

if so...no you don't need one.
should you have one? yes...if you're into riding on bad roads, wheelies and highspeed tracking/canyons...then you should...but not 'need'...

properly adjust your suspension for the type of riding you do and you weight first. too many people use dampers as insurance against suspension woes.

 

Don't worry about modding your bike until it doesn't do what you want it to do. How long have you had it?
