Default Shortening Yoshi

I'm considering cutting down my RS-1 by 3" to eliminate a major dent in the canister. I'd like to replace the sleeve but Yoshimura doesn't offer a replacement for the RS-1.

What I'm curious about is what should I expect from taking this canister down to 15" in respect to sound and/or power? Also would I be better off scrapping it and going to a RS-3 or RS-5?

Thanks

I shortened my FMF and a buddy did his yoshi and it sounds great. But it wasbt 3" it was more like 8 inches. 3" should not make too much of a difference. good luck

Ive got a RS-1 on my 02 F4i and have experimented with putting metal ducting tape around the inner perforated pipe starting from the engine side up to around 6". This would be close to what you are contemplating cause it makes the exhaust straight thru for that first 6" then hits the rest of the holes and packing. The sound was noticeably louder (deeper burble) at idle and low rpms and definitely louder when gassed. Sounded ok to me so Ive left it that way. Dont see many RS-1's around these days. BTW Ive got the racing baffle..dont know what the other one looks like.

hey, guys, when u said u cut down your pipe. do u mean actually make the pipe shorter? and how does it look/
i really like the looks on those new gixxer's pipe, short and it is out of the way, and make the bike look cleaner, since mine is a 02 F4I, and it will cost much less to convert it to undertail pipe, like those on the RR.
do u guys know any company selling pipe that looks like the one on gixxers and that it will fit my f4i?

If you can find the current copy of 2-Wheel Tuner magazine (either November or December) there's an exhaust buyer's guide in there. There's alot of exhaust manufacturers listed that I never knew existed!
