anyone know where i can pick up an extra long chain that i can wrap around 2'x2' concret post and have enough room to wrap around my bike?

I've check EVERYWHERE for heavy duty chain. Grainger, lowes, HD, even uhaul's tow hitch shop. .........nothing

homedepot and lowes have CRAP for thick chains. Even they're thickest chains are still easily cut by their own chain snapper tool and can be hacksawed in less than a minute.

The best chain for security is the OnGuard Beast, it says it's for bicycles (typeo maybe?) but it has 14mm thick hardened links that cannot be cut through with hand powered tools and it's the thickest moto chain on the market.

I finally decided on a inch thick braided steel cable from walmart for 20$. Cable is harder to cut or saw through than chains. I really like the idea of that Gorilla Alarm system though.....

 

yea i was looking at the chains on the motorcycle superstore site and saw that one. how long is the steal cable bought?

i used an onguard chain with a scorpio i900.

and you can snag an i900 for $300 or so and install it yourself. i'll walk you through the fuel cut-off relay soldering if you'd like. no way should you let anyone install it for that price.

just pretty heavy to ship. consider it though!

 

is there another comparable option thats a bit cheaper so i can maybe buy two to link them together in order to get the length i need?

 

If you're using a huge bolt cutter, the Home depot chain will snap like a toothpick.,
Cable bends and will mush rather than "snap". Now against 18v grinder/cutter, anything is toast.

It's the New York Fahgettaboudit 5 ft chain. It's long enough to chain your bike to a nearby pole. Sometimes though, there's no poles or anything nearby so I just chain up the front wheel through the brakes and such. I also have the early warning lojack system. For lojack, though, you have to make sure your area has coverage. I know my area has a 97% recovery rate within 24 hrs and I believe if it isn't found in 30 days, lojack will give you money equal to the current value of your bike. I sleep a little better at night with this set up and feel better when I'm parked outside a restaurant, mall, or whatever. I'd like to finish my security set up with the scorpio i900 or cheap gorilla alarm, just so I can have the two-way fob. That way, I don't have to run out to my bike every 15 mins to make sure it's still there lol. (You can never be too careful )

That kryptonite chain is massive though and it's a b1tch carrying it around, but I'd rather do that than have some steal my bike!
