I don't see how anyone can really get your bike anywhere if you have the steering lock, along with a disc lock on the rear wheel. Unless they have a box truck with a hydraulic lift gate....but if they go through that much effort then they'll get your bike no matter what.

Instead of a simple motorcycle alarm, what about a lojack? I'm pretty sure your insurance will go down because of it, and if your bike is stolen they can track that bitch right quick (If I remember correctly)

i called a local dealer about the lojack and they explained to me that there are two models. one where lojack watches my bike all the time and notifies me if it moves without the key fob, for 799 installed....and the other for 599 where i have to let them know if my bike is stolen

Chop shop doesn't care. They can still sell parts. We had listing on craigslist saying "you tell me what parts you want, if it is not listed here" like taking orders. Police raided a chop shop and they had lots of bike there too.

I've got the lo jack with early warning detection on my truck. Whenever my transponder battery dies I get a call on my cell, email, work number, and my mom's house. Only problem is that it takes 5 minutes of the vehicle moving without the transponder before it sends the alert, which by that time, I'd assume your bike is 5 miles down the road in the back of a van being torn apart as they're moving.

There aren't many places to hide that thing on a bike and I'm sure it wouldn't take a professional long to trace down a couple wires that don't look normal and yank the plug.

Even with disc locks, if they want it bad enough, they'll pick it up and throw it in the back of a truck, so what if they break a mirror or rash a fairing, they'll still make enough money off the rest of the parts.

I don't have personal experience with lojack nor have I researched them much, but I think the reason they are so expensive is they are actually put in the frame? Again don't quote me on that....But I'm sure its not some ****ty box they throw on your bike and say "that comes to $800"

I am sure some of you seen this video. If someone really wants to steal, they will.

so i guess given this information, signs are pointing toward getting comprehensive coverage, and maybe adding a couple disc locks and chaining the bike down to the nearby concrete post.
