You said the oil is 14months old? You put 4k on it this season, so what about before this season? Did you just buy the bike and the previous owner say he changed the oil at a certain time? Just curious, I usually do everything when I get a new bike or car anyways. you just never really know until you do it yourself.

Bought the bike Sept '09. Previous owner had all maintenance done and up to date when he signed over the title. So amongst other things, the bike had new oil and filter when I took her. Was in the middle of a move, so bike sat from Dec - Mar. And when I finally got to riding...well...4k miles later here I am .

Sounds like I really need to get the oil out of the bike asap and not wait 'til next season. I really appreciate the input guys. Thanks! I'll try to make the oil change my thurs project. Will post back on here how it went...

14 months & 4k miles, you're due an oil change. But it's not a "IS THERE A 24 hr AUTOZONE ANYWHERE?!?!?".

Cars go longer, including high performance sports cars.

I wouldn't be stressing over it. I don't measure my oil life in time periods. That's for if you spend half your day sitting in LA traffic or something

4k on full synthetic oil is nothing to be worried about.

Measuring your oil life in time periods is based on the fact that blow by gases deteriorate oil and reduce its ability to clean and lubricate. Blow by gases enter your oil an begin breaking it down after the first time an engine is run with new oil. That is why oil changes used to be recommended every 3mo or 3 thou. With the advancements in the.detergents in modern oils and the improvements in engine tolerances you can go longer. That does not mean a free pass forever. Just thought you should know.
