Default Replace stator ?

Well after the bike has been laid down twice on the left side (once by me once by previous owner) that stator cover is pretty scratched up. I got an OEM replacement on ebay for around $65 shipped with a gasket included. Has anyone that has done this before give me a run-down of what I need to do? I'm assuming I'll need to drain the oil first (so I can do it during my next oil change). Any hints or suggestions? thanks

its a simple process really. you dont have to drain all of the oil if you want to do it now and not wait til oil change. undo the bolts from old cover, take off old cover, take off the remains of old gasket. place the new gas gasket with cover on. before you bolt it down to the engine case make sure that the stator wire boot cover is not moving /loose. then bolt it down and then go stuntin!

Hmm so that's it? I thought because of the gasket it would be holding oil in. So I don't even have to lay the bike on it's right side?

OK, I found the information I needed, but all the websites refer to sealing the gasket with a silicone sealant. I have Permatex ultra black and ultra blue sealant. Is there a particular one I should use, or is it safe to use either one?

you need a gasket sealant?

I simply took off old cover, scraped off the old gasket, put on a new gasket on the new cover and bolted it back.

Did i miss something?

^nope, you did not miss anything.

socal, i should have mentioned that the sealant that i grabbed was an all purpose silicone(which listed gasket use).
good luck bud and remember about the wiring boot. try to allign the cover with the engine block so the boot does not move about.

Is it okay to just use liquid gasket sealer or should I buy a gasket? Also, should I use the sealer on the grommet that seals the wire in the stator cover or is it okay to just push it in? Thanks
