Rear engine hanger and collar
Hello all! Purchased a 2001 F4i a couple of weeks ago. Needs some basic maintenance, fairings aren't in great shape, and the previous owners should never have been allowed near a wrench. I'm not anything close to a mechanic, but the kludges involved in their work boggles the mind. Anywho, a little work never hurt anyone and I'm looking forward to getting this back on the road where it belongs (less than 7000 miles).
So the knuckleheads installed some racing bars (I use the word "installed" grudgingly), which I removed and am in the process of returning to stock form. My question involves the rear engine hanger distance collars that install with the rear engine bolt, #23 and #24 according to the microfiche schematic breakdown.

Where are these supposed to be installed? The 20mm lock nut (#11) and rear adjusting bolt (#26) are still installed on the bike (they didn't come off when I removed the bolt for the race bar). The service manual widely available on the Internet isn't much help, simply stating "Install the rear engine hanger distance collars and temporarily install the rear engine hanger bolt from the left side" (pg 7-11).
Thanks in advance, this forum seems like a winner.

Thanks for the reply. I did download the service manual, but am still confused as to where exactly the distance collars are installed.
The diagram above only shows 1) the lock nut and main rear bolt, and 2) the locking collar, which requires a special tool, and associated rear adjusting bolt, that is installed from inside the frame. The parts microfiche references 2 engine hanger collars (#23, #24), and the service manual calls the rear engine hanger distance collars (I think). From the parts microfiche, the distance collars installs between the two bolts. Does it fit into the cut out area of the engine case?
I have a Clymer manual on the way. Maybe it will shed more light. I'll also stop by the hardware store and get an appropriate sized bolt and lock nut.
