a bunch of people have done that, but i asked my mechanic and he said that it wouldn't be the best idea. im inclined to believe him cuz he has a track f4i with everything. he just welded two u shaped pieces of metal to the bottom of either side of the swingarm, tapped those, and put spools in them. it should be a lot stronger that way and your not compromising the structural integrity of the swingarm.

Thats what i thought a swing arm isnt the best thing to go drilling holes into. I never thought of the idea of welding some tabs on it though. Thanks for the idea ill have to look into it.

ok I asked this in another thread, but no one answered so maybe i'll have better luck here...

I just picked up an unknown brand of read stand from a friend who has had it for years and years, and without thinking I just slid it under the swing arms and lifted the bike up... So is this bad? Do I have to have spools if this works fine?

Sorry for jacking the thread...

This is what I do. Its a PitBull rear stand. It converts to use either for spools or w/o.
*Disclaimer - this was not long after I got the bike when it still had OEM tires (they had to go!) & b/f I did the split-seat conversion.

I have drilled s/a and no problems. Heat can be an issue if the welder doesn't know what he's doing.

Drilling and tapping is absolutely fine and does not affect a single thing. I track my bike and have had zero issues drilling and tapping. I actually have a extra set of inserts and the tool to install them if you interested PM me.
