Exclamation Question - F4i bottom of stator cover broken (block side) PICTURES INSIDE!

Hey guys,

I recently picked up (2) F4i's and both of them have to have the same problem. The stator covers are leaking slightly and as I went to investigate, both of them seem to be broken on the block side.

Where the very bottom stator cover goes, it is broken on the block side. It looks like the only fix is a new block, what do you guys recommend?

(Have not taken off the gasket yet, but it looks like the same problem based of where the previous owner has it sealed.)

I was hoping for a more reliable alternative, but now that I have had half a day to think about it. That seems like the only solution other than swapping out the block.

What brand of weld would you guys recommend? Just regular JB Weld?

I think the challenge you're going to have with JB Weld is getting it clean enough for the JB Weld to adhere to the engine case. I think that I'd try to get a longer cover bolt and put a nut behind the part that is broken. JB Weld does good in compression, but not so good tension situations. You're also going to have to cut threads into it.

If the nut option doesn't work, then have an aluminum welder fill the back side with a big blob of aluminum, then drill and tap it.

I say just have a welder fix that for you and just drill and tap it. To have that welded it would cost you hardly anything. I'd charge like $20 to weld that. Hell you might be able to get a cool welder that will even drill and tap it for you. I've welded some similar things like that. Nothing to it at all.
