I just acquired a 2006 with a blue tank and fenders, the PO stuck some flat black side fairings on it. I'm going to repaint them, by a pro. Any suggestions on what would be interesting/cool for a Nor Cal bike with a 60's something rider?

Depends on what you're into honestly. You can do something bright and vibrant or you can do something darker. As far as design, depending on what you want to spend on paint, you can be creative with graphics or let the painter get creative
