Unhappy F4i 2001 restricted - unrestricted

Hey

First of all im sorry for the bad language.

Bought a used f4i last year, it was restricted to 25kW around 34 bhp? And since I had read about removeing the restriction on cbr600f I thoguht that I only needed to remove the restrictions in the airintake manifold. But clearly I was worng? atleast acordingly to the honda dealership near me. They told me that they have to replace the "ecu", keys, airintake manifold. Parts alone will cost me around 2400$ and another 680$ for the work. This was because when it was new it was bought as a 34 bhp bike. I was wondering if anyone else have done this to their bike? And that this is the only way to do it?

Pic from the day that i bought it

that has to be the only way to do it if it costs that much. you are better off buying another f4i. it must suck to know you have a cbr that has the that hidden bhp potential and not be able to use it.

the trouble is that a used f4i in the same condition goes for around 10k $ in norway, and i dont have that much money to spend on a bike this summer, since i have to buy a new (used) car before winter

Never heard of that, but if you find someone on eBay or even this forum willing to ship the parts, I bet you could get all that done on your own for $500. But there is zero FUNCTIONAL reason they need to change the keys. There may be a legal reason.

damn, I'm about to ship mine to norway and sell her at auction!

As Ninja said, Why not just ebay another unrestricted ECU for $100 and throttle body assembly for about $70. i cant see any other parts being different.

edit:
this thread says it's basically just a limiting washer in each intake tube and throttle stop and easy to de-restrict.....

They are a bit "sneaky", so I was just wondering if anyone know if I do need to change the ecu as they say or not. The keys might need to be changed because they are changeing the ecu(i dont know if hiss is a part of it?)

I'd look on e-bay UK and I think you may have to change the ecu but not the key............?
And a warm welcome to the forum !

No. They are lying. The key has nothing to do with the ECU.

On my car the key is actually specific to the ignition cylinder's electronic code, so you have to have the key set up. But the F4i has no such security.

I bought my 2001 F4i second hand as well. The bike was also limited but the guy who owned it before me swopped out the ecu i think. Now i can go as fast as i want, the only problem my clocks only go to 180. I know it goes faster as the revs continue to climb.

I was also told by the honda dealership that the only way to fix the speed issue on the clock is to replace my entire cluster...at over 180km/h you shoulnt be looking at them anyway

Im not sure how much they cost where you are, but here i believe a second hand ecu is about R2500 (zar) which is about $300 (american).
