Default THE question

I have that rattling noise that I hear so much about. CCT. I have done some research and still can't decide which replacement to use- the APE manual tensioner or the Honda OEM hydraulic. I am torn between the two because I don't have the mechanical expertise. Pleae shed some light on this.

You can fix it with a simple bolt and nut. Look in the How To section for cct. Someone has posted how to install APE, and someone has replied with a $5 fix, which was recommended by a honda tech to him.

I tried the nut and bolt fix and it didn't change it a bit... Ended up doing the other fix--(the one done by expanding the small roll pin at the tip) and it reduced the noise significantly. That's my $.02

i don't do cctl posts anymore...
there's more than enough information floating out there for a monkey to make a decision...
not an attack on the OP...just that i feel that mokeys > humangs.

if you don't have mechanical expertise, then go with OEM.
the difference between the 2 is APE...you manually adjust it yourself until you get the right tension...as it consists of one of the world's most expensive bolt and lock nut combination next to what NASA uses.

OEM...made up of 2 many parts that get worn and make noises...rattling, headache, etc...but uses a spring that automatically extends the cctl pin to get the proper tension...

tada! done!

Is this a real problem if you have the rattling or is it just one of those annoying things?

it's one of those annoying things...like cctl questions! muhhahahah...
however, if you don't take care of it...it WILL drive you mad...seriously...
starts with a bit of rattling, etc...then it gets bad...like REALLY REALLY loud...
eventually you'll be forced to replace it cause everyone will be looking at you and laughing!
