Project F4i
Hello everyone, name's Noel. Im originally from CA but stationed in NC. I'm currently in the military (USMC) and I've been riding for three years now. Im also the safety officer for my unit's bike club. We have various members from all ranks within the corps (including 1 General) and different types of bikes. Anyway, let me get to the point. I picked up an 2002 F4i last year and I've been waiting and saving up a lot of money to get this project started. Im ill equipped when it comes to custom fabrication and the aftermarket fairings for the F4i sucks in my opinion so I was going thinking of going with retrofitting instead. Im sure this has been done many times but I want to know if anyone here knows of anyone with the same make and model of my bike but with a "stolen" part from another make/model bike. I was thinking of retrofitting either a GSXR or an R1 tail fairing onto my F4i but Im not so sure how it would work or if its even possible. Unfortunately, im still in Iraq as of the moment but I will be home in two weeks so theres no way for me to even check out the back section of my bike to see how I can do this. Any opinion and advice is appreciated from all the veteran members and experienced modders in this site. Thank you!
Generally the only way to actually put another bikes tail on, is to retrofit the entire sub-frame. so the issue there in lies with mating the frames to work, including rear shocks. it HAS been done, but it takes ALOT of Fabrication and money.
here is an older F3 with an R1 tail on it... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jaVGGTLB0kg
If you want a really unique tail, consider going for a street fighter tail. it generally requires the same amount of fab work, and is generally very unique. here is a site with some VERY expensive pieces that will require sub-frame modification, but its just an example of what CAN be done...
