Default Polished lip

Hey ladies and gents. I want to polish the lip on my wheels, and for those of you who have done it, what was your method? I am looking at a couple of options:

1. Sand it the old fashioned way with a dremel tool. Not really a desireable finish. My buddy did it on his R6 and it looks good, but not perfect.

2. Send the wheels to a machine shop, so they can get a nice, even machined finish with the lathe. If I went this route, I would have them machine all the way up to the spokes, rather than just the lip.

Has anybody used option 2? How much did you have to pay a machine shop to do it for ya? Thanks in advance.

You wouldn't go to a machine shop to polish the lip, they would hammer your for the price, you go there for custom metal work and fabrication. You would wanan find a chromer/powder coating place and have then do the work should be cheap that way. I paid about 200 for my front wheel to beed blasted, polished, then used high gloss orange powder coat with a protective coat.

I'm not looking to redo the entire wheel, just "sand/scrape" the powdercoating off the lip. Why wouldn't a machine shop be able to chuck it up in the lathe and hit it with a tool on both sides real quick?

It so simle you would have wished you had done it along time ago. Honda wheels already have a polished lip under the powdercoat. The only thing you have to do is take the wheels off the bike, leave the tires on. Than get yourself some aircraft stripper and spray it on the lip of the wheel. get yourself a plastic window scrapper knife and after the stripper has bubbled up the paint on the lip just simply scrape it off. Done worry if you overspray the wheel with the stripper because it will only take off the caot on the lip. You wont believe how easy this is. After you have gotten the powdercoat off than get some mothers wheel polish in a can with some terry cloths. Hand buff it 3 times to a mirror finish. These wheels will look like chrome!!!!!!!!!!!! Good Luck!!!

I did mine yesterday with the airplane stripper and it came out pretty good. The front wheel looks
great, the rear wheel looks ok. I went and got some aluminum polish and that helped a little bit.
