Here is why take-offs are a bad idea:

1. They are designed for track temps and track surfaces.
2. To heat track tires to the temp the were designed for would require stupid fast riding and stupid hard braking on the street.
3. Track tires are only designed to heat/cool (heat cycle) a limited number of times. This is usually not an issue on the track because the tires will wear out before they harden from heat cycles.

So even if you get a wicked deal on some take-offs, they are only going to be good for a very limited number of rides. After that you will get less traction than a high performance street tire.

Would they be OK until you can get another set of street tires. Sure. You may even get away with them for awhile if you aren't a real agressive rider. But if you aren't a real agressive rider you could get a sport tire with a lot better mileage.

unless...the take off is a diablo or pilot power or other tire that is built for repeated heat cycles...then i would slap the person in the head who's selling it.

I guess I should have added that by take-offs I mean race tires (Diable Corsa, Pilot Race, etc.)

Yeah mine just started losing traction. I have 4046 miles on them and get to the mountains at least 3 times a month, other than that I'm riding back roads around the house and going to work. Recently (last 100 miles or so), I can feel the back tire slipping a lot more when downshifting hard.

no i knew what you meant...i just wanted to say something...hahhahahah....

i think the corsa's still do well with heat cycles though as they claim that they are a 70% track 30% street tire...but the super duper crazy mawfaki supercorsas...not those...

as long as it's not slipping in a lean it's all good.
