I use a filter socket with an extention and a 3/8" ratchet. Works perfect, everytime! And being that I'm always overtightening stuff, I do get out my torque wrench and tighten the new filter to 20 lb. ft. Also helps keep it from getting too stuck on there the next time you change it

I just bought an oil filter socket (attaches to your 1/2" drive socket and fits snug around the flat edges on the end of the filter) from Wal-Mart. They have a few different sizes. I think mine is a 'B.'

Get a filter socket. They come is a variety of sizes, you can get one anywhere, walmart, meier, etc. If you have an extension for your ratchet you won't even need to take the fairings off.

$6 at advance auto for a filter wrench (65 mm fits perfect)....run an extension and 3/8 ratchet and no need to remove the fairings and never spill a drop of oil on the headers or ground (well almost never........Lata Jack

Default oil filter removal <with aftermarket headers>

I am looking into buying a full exhaust system for my bike, and a friend told me that some header pipes don't allow space for the oil filter to be removed like the stock headers do. Does anyone have aftermarket headers? If so, do you have any issues with oil changes?

Guys, full systems for the F4i are getting very cheap!!!

Thanks

take your new oil filter to the autoparts store and pick up an oil filter wrench attatchment for your ratchet. that takes it off really easy.
DONT use a torque wrench to put it back on. just tighten it by hand and you'll be fine.

Make sure you oil the rubber o-ring on the new filter, that's probably why the old one is on so tight, it'd dry. I had a daytona that someone put the filter on dry, and I had to beat the old filter off with a hammer and chisel.

I had the same trouble with my first change and tried the screwdriver trick. Could not get off, went to O'Rielly's and got a filter socket fro $10 and came off. socket is the way to go for sure.
