it was just a random coincidence. i was shaking the bike around quite a bit trying to get the oil filter off and somehow managed to fry my headlight wiring harness. actually it's quite a common problem with the F4i's.

the only thing with the dash light is when it's in neutral and i hit the gas the neutral light flickers and goes out and then comes back on seconds later and when I try to start it, it does the same thing

So does your bike start on its own and run and then you cant start it again? or are you jumping it? I changed my oil on my bike and never came close to hitting any wires. And synthetic oil will not break your bike.
