hey there, i just bought a '01 F4i and got a K&N for it the other day and now the FI light is on and won't go out. I haven't tried to put the old filter back in because of work and weather, but has anyone experienced this before? no one that i have talked to hear has ever heard of this problem.

the filter will not cause this. did you put the wire you took loose on the air filter box back on?

 

+1 Check that on top of the air box, I think it's an air temp sensor or similar.

 

+2, if that isn't the case, make sure you didn't knock any other sensors loose.
