Default New Chain and Sprockets A Must?

Now I know that you should replace the chain and sprockets as a set, but should you do it with absolutely NEW chain and sprockets? I am in need of them, but I found some used from a used f4i. Is it okay to replace my current set with used chain and sprockets?

FYI, the used sprockets and chain are a set off the same bike.

yes that will be fine.

make sure you get a new rivet master link and that whoever you're buying this from did not cut just any link but the master link to get it off the bike.

I have a used chain (some guy did a few races on it) and put new sprockets on and that was a couple thousand miles ago. In fact, it's still has the proper slack and I never adjust it, which is what freaks me out.

it's an 'in general' thing.

if the chain is pretty new, i wouldn't worry about it.

it's when you have guys using a new chain on 4-6K sprockets and vice versa. there's no true cut off point and it doesn't break anything, just makes one wear out faster so you don't get the true life out of either.
