I have a 2001 CBR600F4i for the track. This past weekend, I had some trouble with 3rd gear.

At first the trouble was slipping under acceleration.While accelerating, it took the transmission about a half second to a full second to fully engage (you could feel the slippage). This only happened in 3rd gear.

Then the problem got worse. I had a lot of trouble shifting from second to third. I tried both using the clutch and not using the clutch. In both cases, a could lift up on the shifter and the bike "felt" like it entered 3rd, but when I reengaged the clutch, it was obviousI was still in 2nd. I had to yank up on the shifter three to six times to get 3rd to engage.

Any thoughts on the problem or advice on the steps to diagnose the problem?

My street bike did the "fail to go into third thing" last year. Changing the oil and maybe tightening the chain cured it. I went to Amsoil synthetic.

i had the same kind of thing so i preloaded the shifter before changing gears seemed to cure the problem.
i think i had just picked up a bad habit of not putting enough pressure on it
