The schedule shows an "R" to indicate when to replace an item.
How long have you been riding?
Was the loss of mpg on one tank or multipule tanks?
If I were you, fill up your tank, and be very aware of your throttle use and see how that tank ends up.
I thought I was getting horrible mpg once, till I remembered that I didn't reset the trip meter till I had already rode about 40 miles.
If you still are getting bad mpg, start with checking to make sure your O2 sensor (if you have one) is connected, air filter clean, ect.
Did you buy it new or used? If new, then you know the conditions which it was rode. Dirt rodes, or in the rain with affect the air filter.
If you don't ride on either your filter is fine.

From that amount its most likely throttle control but you could check your plugs as well as the air and fuel filters. Do you have a power commander? check to make sure the download is still correct. Have you added a new exhaust recently? Are you riding 2 up more now than before?

Riding around Boston I can't get more than 100 miles before reserve, and I only get that if I baby the throttle and keep the revs well under 5k. Otherwise it's more like 70 or 80 miles. Did you recently move to a city?

I think my air filter needs a cleaning. I do remember having to ride in the rain and I was going pretty fast. Thats probably whats going on.

Are you freaking kidding?! 80 miles on a 4gallon tank?!?!?!?! Part of the reason I ride the bike is for the gas milage. I used to get 160-180 before the reserve light came on and after I put my PP's on I only get 130-150. It really blows =( I wonder if I have too much brake drag because I do remember pulling the brake lever while the wheel was off the bike and then thinking "oh crap I'm not supposed to do that."

The tank is 4 gallons, but I only fill up 2.5 gallons. That's 40 mpg, or more than twice what a car gets putting around in shtty Boston traffic.

Also gotta remember oil change isn't just based on miles..if you leave it sitting for an extended amount of time (over winter etc) the oil has to be change more often than the manual states miles wise

Did you ever discover what your problem with gas milage was?
