Issue with 2002 CBR600 F4i – Won’t Start / No Fuel Pump Prime
Hey everyone, I’m having trouble getting my 2002 CBR600 F4i to start and could really use some help.
While riding down the highway, I suddenly lost all throttle response and the dash briefly flickered for a couple of seconds — but it hasn’t done that since. I replaced the battery thinking it was the issue, but that didn’t fix it.
I stripped the bike of its fairings and started testing the electrical system end-to-end. I’m getting the correct voltage readings everywhere I check, and the relays are clicking as they should. However, the fuel pump won’t prime.
To rule that out, I removed the pump and tested it directly with an external battery — it primed perfectly, so I know the pump itself is fine. I also suspected the bank angle sensor, so I bypassed it, but the bike still wouldn’t start and the fuel pump still wouldn’t prime.
At this point, I’m stuck. I’ve called several mechanics, but they’ve all said they don’t work on electrical issues with bikes this old. I’m not sure what to try next, so any suggestions would be really appreciated.
Also another probably important thing. my fuel pump fuse blows when i try to start the bike…Only when the headlights fuse is plugged in though (which the headlights fuse blows as well) seems like a grounding issue but cant find the ground
Sambonin6 seems to be a short circuit somewhere. Do you have a crimped or damaged wiring? Is the fuses correct ampere? Has the fuel pump relay been checked?
