Default I fail at life :( Or at least the oem catalog

Im lost. I've been trying to order a piece for my bike and keep getting the wrong part. Its not much of a part, mearly a rubber piece with threaded insert. Its what the bolt at the back of the ram air cover threads into in the gas tank. Easy enough I thought. Looking at the parts [upper cowl section of oem catalog] the part looks like #24, a "cowl setting nut" [part #90111-KW3-003]. I ordered two to have a backup. Problem is these things are long cylinders [like 1/2" long], not the pancake style designed to be there. Thinking I just had the wrong part, the only other logical possibility was #21 I thought [without reading the description] and this time its just a grommet. Ooops. So here I am, no part, and nothing else looks like it goes there except #19 but thats just rubber, no threaded insert. WTH???? These cylinder things clearly are not the correct part as I still have the oem one on the other side to compare to.....

You are not alone mate!! I ordered this part and was perplexed too. I even ordered it again from differed dealer, and YES they all the same thing, this long cylinder which nothing at the back to hold it still onto the tank!
Finally I just glued a rubberband at the back so it won't always slip out from the hole. Let me know if you have better idea.

If its what I think it is, you ordered the right part; when you tighten up that rubber piece it turns into what you need. I was the same way when I got those (all WTF!!!) I can make you a video of it tomorrow I have a bunch of them and I am mounting those plastics soon. I was the same way until I tightened the rubber thing all the way. Just hold on! If someone doesn't beat me too it.

Dude if thats true Im going to be amazed and a bit impressed as the thought never occured to me. I won't have time to try until after work tonight. The cylinder does fit nicely in the tanks hole.....

The original looks like it has a ring of rubber - donuts like - so it prevents the rubber thing to slip out of the tank. Please post soon I want to know too!
