Default How to buff out scratch on alternator cover?

Hey everyone. I got a nasty scratch on my alternator cover.

I'd rather not pay over $100 to get a replacement cover. It doesn't have to look perfect, I just want to make it less noticeable using some elbow grease.

Anyone have any suggestions on how I could buff out the scratch a bit? Would coarse-grained sandpaper do the trick?

Thanks,
Dan

problem with sanding it is it takes material away from a already weak spot. I'm sure if you are careful tho it can be done. Wont be able to match up that goldish color tho lol

true. I hear ya. but, don't worry about my riding some guy #2. I've been riding as much as I can.

I just always like to keep my possessions in good condition ... can't hate on someone for that.

so, the original gasket will be ruined on the removal of the cover?

I'm sure you can tell I'm a newbie. lol. I'm trying to learn as much as I can, and as quickly as I can though. This forum is great source of help, and my Clymer manual should be here today!

You are completely correct Bud, best way to learn is to ask questions!

I'd highly recommend you use a new gasket reason being that the old one might be damaged or will possibly leak when you replace your stator cover.
