I went to go for a ride the other day and the battery was completely dead. I jumped it and rode it for about 10 minutes and stopped to talk to a buddy. When I tried to start the bike to leave, it was completely dead again so I jumped it again to get it home, only this time the bike would bog down and barely made it home. I haven't had a chance to pick up a manual yet and between work and classes I really don't have any time so I've been thinking about just taking it to a shop, but I thought I would check with you guys first to see if you had any ideas.

If I can get the bike to start (jump start) it will idle for awhile and will throttle up but then lose rpms and die.

Most likely a bad rectifier or bad battery.

If you want to figure it out yourself, get a multimeter and go follow the steps on this chart

This. Hopefully it's just the battery. Much cheaper to replace.

 

Hey guys, I have the battery charging to test it and the rectifier. Right now I'm replacing the stator cover gasket, just wondering if there's anything special I need to do first. I also wanted to ask what kind of oil you are running. Thanks!

 

I agree but this is only part of the charging system, also could be the stator. So consider the battery, rectifer, stator.

if it is some type of uncommon wiring problem that could take alot of money to figure out
