Default Headlight problems

I just traded a dirtbike for a 02 cbr600 f4i. The bike only has 7,100 miles on it but its in rough shape for the milage. It was missing the headlight bulbs, so I purchased new bulbs and installed them. When I started the bike, only the left bulb worked on low beam but both bulbs work on high beam. I thought it was the bulb so i switched them around but still had the same problem so its not the bulb. I thought maybe it was the headlight relay so I talked to the service manager at my dealership and he said some bikes only use 1 headlight on dims and both on brights. Is this true with a 02 f4i or do both dims light up?

If both light up, could the problem be the relay? I checked the wire diagram and it shows the power wire from the right headlight (problem light) going to the relay where as the left headlight (good headlight) power wire goes to the cpu.

1 light does the low beam and the other does the high beam. With the high beams on both are lit up.

People tell me all the time that I have a headlight out so I try to ride with my high beams on as much as I can. Then one day I rode to my friend's house with high beams on and he tells me that one of my headlights isn't aimed right haha

^That has to be the worst reason to drive around with your high beams on....ever.

If you look at your headlights you'll notice the reflector is different on each side. The low beam has a recessed middle section in the reflector. This is what creates the low beams beam.

I wonder if a low beam reflector cup could be installed on the high beam side and get 2 low beams. Using HIDs a high beam isn't very useful for flash to pass as it takes time to warm up. I think I'd rather have 2x low beams.

In CA its legal to use your high beams during the day to make you more visible to other drivers

i don't see why not the low beam seems to be an even spread, you can aim both headlamps as well so you should be alright.
just keep in mind if you drive down any rural roads with deer, or take any unlit turns you're going to miss having high beams, lowbeams are shot when you are leaning.

Dont hate just because we can lane split jk,

OP, thats totally normal behavior, people are always telling me one of my lights is out. I believe there is a mod that allows you to keep both lights on without having the highbeam switch on, or you can just roll around with the highbeam like us CALIFORNIANS do. lol.

if the Single bugs you that much like it did me, Just pick up a HID kit and use a screwdriver to adjust the high beam to the same level as the low beam and you are good to go.

Thanks for the info. Im releaved to know that I dont have a electrical problem. I shouldve figured that each light was separate cause the bulbs themselves only have 1 lighting element. When I turn on my high beam in the garage, I can see the left light (low beam) stays in the same position and the right light (high beam) lights up in a higher position than the low beam light. Now I can sleep easier knowing that its working correctly.
