This may be a really dumb question but can you put the bike in gear when its off?

 

It's a little more difficult for the transmission to get into gear while the bike is off, but yes you can. You may need to move the bike slightly in order to get the transmission to line up properly to get it fully engaged.

Mine goes into first easily when the bikes off. It wont click up into second though but ive never really tried too hard to do it.
