Gas Guage Question
ok so this may be a dumb question, but when the reserve 'bars' come up on the digital screen does this mean you have those bars left until you hit the reserve or that you'd better fill up before the bars disappear? I ask only because recently i was on a ride in which we only filled up every 150-170 miles and every time i would have reserve bars flashing on the digi. Upon looking up the specs on the bike i found out that the fuel capacity is about 4.8 gallons and when i filled up (when there was one bar left on the reserve meter) the bike only took 3.8 gallons which would leave about a gallon of fuel (specs say reserve capacity is about .9 gallons) anyways, any help you guys have would be appreciated.

they use the bars as a warning, you aren't going to be completely empty when the last bar goes away...it's just encouragement to fill it up
mine works the same way where i usually put in between 3.8 - 4 gallons if i fill up when the last bar starts flashing.

With only five gallons and not true gauge it is just a general indicator. There is a sensor in the tank, and once it is uncovered (by low level or sloshing) it automaticly ticks down according to miles driven not gas used.
There needs to be enough gas in the tank to make sure the fuel pump doesn't starve when you lean over.
